Who we are
Shotly is made by Perception Group, Gitsestraat 593, 8800 Roeselare, Belgium (VAT BE 1031.162.458). Perception Group is responsible for the data described here.
Shotly is a small app for people who shoot video and photos. This policy covers the Shotly app for Mac and Windows and this website. If you have a question about it, write to [email protected].
What the app does on your computer
Shotly works on your own computer and your own drives. To do its job it:
- reads the cards and drives you connect, to see which files are already on your working drive and to copy the ones that are not;
- keeps an index of your working drive in a .shotly folder on that drive, and its settings and transfer history on your computer;
- writes a transfer log and an MHL checksum file into each shoot's _Logs folder. As the MHL format expects, that file includes your computer's name and your user name;
- unless you turn it off, watches your Downloads folder for music, voiceover, sound effects, LUTs, graphics and stock footage, and files each one into the project you pick, or straight into the active project if you set it to automatic.
All of this stays on your computer and your drives. Shotly never uploads your footage, your file names, your folder names or anything about your shoots.
License check (Windows version)
The Windows version, and any copy bought directly from this site, needs a license key. When you activate a key, Shotly sends the key and your computer's name to Lemon Squeezy, which checks that the key is valid. About once a week, Shotly checks the key again. The computer name lets you see which computers use your key. Like any connection over the internet, Lemon Squeezy can see your IP address when this happens.
The Windows version also checks shotly.digital/updates.json about twice a day to see if a newer version is out. That request sends nothing about you or your files; like any web request, our host can see your IP address.
The Mac App Store version does not do a license check or an update check. The App Store handles updates.
Purchases
On the Mac App Store, Apple handles the purchase under Apple's privacy policy. Apple does not share your name or email with us.
For Windows, Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record. They handle payment, tax and the receipt email with your key, under Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy. We can see the name and email address on your order so we can help you with your key. We don't use them for anything else, and we never sell them.
Crash reports
Shotly has no crash reporting of its own. If you have chosen to share crash data with app developers in your Mac's settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports on to us. We use them only to fix bugs.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Fonts and images are served from this site itself, so nothing loads from other companies. The server that hosts the site may keep short technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep it running and secure.
If you write to support, we use your message and email address only to answer you. We delete them when they are no longer needed.
Children
Shotly is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from anyone.
Your rights
You can ask what we know about you, which is at most your order details and your emails to us, and ask us to correct or delete it. Write to [email protected]. If you are in the EU or the UK, you can also contact your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
